HARPENDEN PUBLIC HALLS

We are delighted to announce that, subject to planning permission for change of use, we have reached agreement with St.Albans Council to purchase the Harpenden Public Halls.  We are very thankful for the opportunity this iconic building gives us to be a church at the heart of our community as we seek to live out our vision to love Christ, love church and love Harpenden. We are also excited to be able to retain and restore a building that many in the town hold dear.  The town’s motto, Fide et Labore (by faith & works) is engraved above the main entrance to the Halls. We look forward to continuing the original purpose for the building and maintain its legacy in this way.

Our church community has raised a significant amount of money to purchase the building and have donated an additional sum that has been allocated to renovate the Halls into a home for our church. The brief presented to our architect is to create multi-purpose and flexible spaces that could be of benefit to the wider Harpenden community, serving the people of the town and its surrounding villages. In our bid to the council we said, ‘We appreciate the public sector is under vast pressure and it is well documented that there is a need for community-led services. ChristChurch Harpenden wishes to offer its support in this endeavour.’

We are grateful to have raised enough to make the building fit for initial use. Most of these funds will be directed to internal works, including the necessary repairs. A number of members of the wider community have said they might like to contribute to help preserve the building & create an attractive façade to this building which sits at the gateway to our town. If you might be interested in being part of this community-driven project, please contact the church using the button below. If you would simply like to find out more about the project & our church do also get in touch.
