Inspiring past

Exciting future

The Public Halls hold a special place in the hearts of many Harpenden residents, rich with history and cherished memories. Preserving this legacy—while creating a new home for our church at the heart of the community—was the inspiration behind our members’ generous commitment to fund the purchase of the building. We are now focused on modernising the space in a sustainable way, while carefully maintaining its unique character and historic charm. We believe this building offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a landmark community space right at the gateway to the town, on the high street.

Our vision is to breathe new life into this historic building, transforming it into a vibrant and accessible space where all are warmly welcomed, God’s Word is faithfully proclaimed, and people are encouraged and equipped in their journey of faith. Whether you are exploring Christianity for the first time or have been following Jesus for many years, we want this to be a place where you truly feel at home.

As our church family continues to grow, we are adding a new balcony to increase capacity. Alongside this, we are reimagining the exterior of the building to make it more accessible, inviting, and visually open—creating a brighter presence that reflects the warmth, hope, and heart of our church community.

At the same time, we are undertaking a complete transformation of the building’s infrastructure to ensure it is fit for the future. This includes a full upgrade of the electrical and heating systems, replacing outdated utilities with innovative, eco-friendly technologies. All gas has been removed from the building as we transition to highly efficient heat pumps, radiant heating panels, and advanced heating and cooling systems designed to reduce environmental impact while improving comfort. Solar panels and EV charging facilities will also be installed, helping us create a more sustainable, energy-efficient church that serves both our congregation and wider community responsibly for generations to come.
